Different scales commonly are used in measuring temperature, and the relationships of one scale to others are necessary quantities to remember or be able to deduce. Temperature is important because it is a measure of the amount of energy associated with the motion of atoms and molecules.  Consequently, temperature is associated with many aspects of chemistry, e.g., the properties of gases and rates of chemical reactions.
